It was a lovely autumnal morning when members joined the coach for a trip to Devon and Coleton Fishacre, which was once the country home for the D’Oyly Carte family. It was built in the Arts & Crafts style and the rooms echo the lifestyle in the 1920’s – upstairs and downstairs – with rooms echoing the family’s Gilbert & Sullivan connections.
There is a wonderful garden full of many interesting plants from around the world. It also has spectacular sea views.
We were so fortunate in that the weather held until the last hour of our visit when the rain returned.
The house set in a wonderful garden A comfortable lounge The working wind dial restored in 2000 The tea service used ‘upstairs’ … … downstairs wasn’t quite so grand. Do you fancy a swim? Another view of the house … … and a gardener working hard. Cyclamen in abundance. The view from the top of the garden.
