Outing from Poole Quay to Wareham

Forty-nine members of the Association were so fortunate with the weather in July 2024 when they enjoyed a cruise along the River Frome from Poole Quay to Wareham. The sun was shining, there was a slight breeze and a very pleasant time was spent watching the scenery as it glided passed. We were all able to sit on the top deck listening to the commentary pointing out sights of interest.

One really exciting sight was the flypast of a rare and endangered White Tailed Sea Eagle, one of a pair known to be living in the Poole Harbour area.

We were also fascinated by the apparent movement of the Pirory Church of Lady St Mary which could be seen in the distance. Sometimes it was on the left of the boat, then it was on the right, and even on one occasion it was behind us, yet when we arrived in Wareham there it was proudly sitting in its allotted spot just a few yards from our mooring.

Because of the tide times we only had just over an hour in which to explore Wareham so couldn’t do it justice. However members took the opportunity to eat their picnics on the green opposite the moored boat or frequented one of the many inns and cafes in the town.
