Brownsea Island is the largest island situated in Poole Harbour. It is one and a half miles long and three quarters of a mile wide and contains 500 acres of woodland, heathland and salt marsh. It also hosted the first Scout camp in 1907 and is still visited by camping scouts from all over the world.

On 7 September we headed off with a full coach of Golden Cap members (and hopefully potential members) to Poole Harbour where we were met by a NT volunteer guide who helped us board the ferry for the journey to the island. On landing she gave us details of the facilities available and we set off to enjoy the island.

Those of us of a more agile disposition took a short guided history tour of the island (and saw red squirrels) while others fortified themselves in the café before a more gentle investigation of the surroundings followed by a very informative tour of the island on the Squirrel Shuttle Bus.

The weather was kind to us but unfortunately, not as good as the last photo taken on a previous outing but everyone had a very enjoyable day.
